I am a graphic designer, and And this semester I took a course on making websites. We learned that the number one reason a person entires a site is because they are looking for information. I thought this might be a good topic to discuss for my last blog. As a graphic designer I try to be creative as possible, but some times the message doesn't get through with all of the creativity that I put in my artwork. Websites should be easy to navigate through and content should be the forefront of the page. Technology has grown in way that has allowed people to get information in a flash and like I said, that is how a website should be built.

It is crazy that a private conversation can become a part of the media. The Donald sterling conversation with his "girlfriend" is all over the sports news. I can't wait until the day that he sells his team. I am more of a college fan then a nba fan because it is more of a pure sport. The one thing that caught my attention in the whole sterling conversation was the the fact that he said that he gave everything to his "players" and they would have nothing without him. We all know that the majority of the "players" are African-Americans, so what do you think was going to happen. I think that he should have thought about what he was going to say, but a bigot person such as himself will never change. He was known around the league as a owner that was not fair to his players years ago. This is probably the only time that I'm going to say this; I am glad that media had a big role in this.

Cyber-bullying

I never really thought that cyber-bullying was a problem until I saw that young student horrific story. I am so out of the loop with digital media these days because honestly I don't partake in it as much as I used too. Listening to that story made me do some extra research, and I found out some more stories that is just like the one we watched in class. I think how the world is today, with technology leading the way, I fear for our society. If you ever heard the saying, blessing in disguise, well, that is what I think of technology/social media/our lives. Yes, social media is a blessing to get information about stories like this one, but more often than not, people use social media in the wrong way. When I am on Facebook, I see so many post about stupid things that no one cares or has the time for. People disguise themselves so often on social media that you can't tell if they are real or fake. I feel like people just want to boost there morality up. Cyber-bullying is the definition in disguise. People are afraid to confront people in real life so they do it on the web. I would rather have someone tell me to my face then in space. I know I can seem like a beef jerky most of the time, and if people had a problem with me, I hope that they would feel comfortable to tell it to my face instead of in space. It is sad to see a little girl kill herself over a stupid thing, if someone could have told her that it gets better then she might be her today. Technology is growing so rapidly theses days, I fear that there might not be a solution for cyber-bullying.

There is no doubt as a society that we are addicted to social media. The only reason I check my Facebook these days is when I am at school in-between classes. I think I am more addicted to my Espn app more than anything. I check that religiously because I want to know what is happening all the time in all sports. I think that is why most people are socially awkward, including myself. Now, this is where I typically stay in this boring blog formation, we'll not this time. I am person that doesn't want to be bother half of the time, but I'm going to try and go deep in this post. I rarely share my point of view because I am not that type of person. I see throughout the university and especially in class, people staring at me wondering why he is quite. I think people don't think that I am not aware of that, but trust me, I am. That is the way I am but I am trying to change. If you read this post, let me know next time you see me what you thought of this blog and maybe we can have a conversation. I know I have to change for me to be successful at Graphic Design.

Privacy...

I somewhat agree with the statement that Andrews says. I think privacy depends on what kind of social media that one use. For instance, one can block people on Facebook, so I don’t think a school or a job should be able to view what you put on your page. On the other hand, Twitter is a site that everyone has access to, no matter if you try to block a person, they can still see it. That is why I never and will never get a twitter. I also think that you should be aware of what you intend to put up, because it might bite you in the butt. I think it is alright to show “college pics” if you are still in college. People understand, so I would think that a business would understand what goes on in college. I think once you get out of college, a person that still acts like a “fool” and post silly things is just plain stupid. They are at their own risk.

Google

Google for years has been a favorite search engine for a lot of people. Lately, they have divulged in new technology that I would never fathom.  I never would have thought that Google would try and sell them self as someone trying to make it in the cable world, however; they have. The new thing that Google is trying to sell people on is that they can look up TV show on the web and they will show what they have. With Netflix, Amazon, and people's favorite, the DVR, I would think that they would stay away from cable. It has not gone well with it so far, but sooner than later people around the world will give in and start using that product. This should bring up the question, is Google to powerful? Well, for me, I only use Google for a search engine. My main goal while on the website is to get research for ideas for art or for a paper. Others think totally different when new technology comes out. The problem is us, as Americans, we are so use to trying new technology when it comes out, and that is what Google thrives on. Why stop making products when they know that people are going to try them out. As Americans we shouldn't give into the power of Google or even new technology, and start going outside like we were kids. Back before this generation of technology most people went outside to play and didn't stay in to do stuff on Google. Why go have fun outside and maybe get a little exercise when I can play a game on Google. That is why we shouldn't allow Google to have such a big part in our lives.

Blog 1

Jason Kottke view was and is like mine when talking about blogging. There is not a whole lot that intrigues me about the idea about blogging. I think it is a bunch of nonsense to blog about your interests. He states, “As I've gotten older and the site's readership has increased, I'm less inclined to share my personal life with everyone.” (Kottke) I think that most people are not going to visit your site that often if you just talking about yourself. It feels like dating someone if you only do that. Plus, people can know way too much about you and turn that in to a negative light. I think that I will use blogs to inform people what I am working on as a graphic designer and also to use it promote myself to be able to get clients. You need money to live so I think that it is great if you can make a little change while doing a job. If one was to get information about media for people, than why not get paid for doing that, you are working right? Some people view that otherwise as being greeting. According to article on Jason Kottke one of his friends stopped following him because he had ads for money. He said that his friend wrote on his blog to inform him about the situation. He said, “The moment you slap an ad on your site it changes what that site is. It changes the terms of the dialogue. It just does. Doesn't matter how small the ad is, or how putatively useful: it indicates to me that, rather than being a respected peer with whom you are interested in having a conversation, you now understand me as an eyeball to be monetized.” (Kottke) Everyone point of view is going to differ in a way and that is what makes people unique. I don’t agree with his friend view. I plan on doing everything in my power to make, as much money as I possibly can and I think blogging is a great way in order to make a little change.
